The Sport Cruiser is still very popular. Open enough to enjoy the outdoor life and watersports, the concept is also big enough to welcome a family for a weekend. The Sea Ray 350 coupé, Flagship of the Sundancer series offers a real sporty look.
The sports cruisers retain their supporters because this type of boat generally offers a good compromise between habitability and sportiness. This is exactly the concept of this Sea Ray with its 35’ (10.67 m) length. It is also the largest in the Sundancer range, at least for the moment. Regarding the design, the Sea Ray is not really surprising. The boat takes the outline of the open Sundancer with an elegant and fluid look. The windshield and hardtop have given way to a closed wheelhouse with a nice ripple in the bottom of the side windows. The roof extends into a slender cap that reinforces the sports side while there is also a very nice electric sunroof. The long hull portholes betray a good habitability while the beautiful rear bathing area, which can be extended by an additional platform, is a call for swimming and water activities.
To enter on board, we use the rear platform. Large enough, the rear space offers a few storage compartments; very convenient for nautical equipment and an outdoor kitchen with a grill and sink. It is well done! A small gate prevents access to the cockpit, good security for young kids. The fully open cockpit is divided into two spaces, one consisting of a large sitting room with a table in the rear and the other dedicated to the pilot and the port chaise longue, which has an adjustable incline. The rear sitting room can turn into a solarium and a sliding bimini can be deployed above. On starboard, another seat with a refrigerator below adds a little more comfort. Storage is hidden under the seats and finally, the pilot seat can rotate to increase the “circle.” The last asset of this exterior is the front deck which can also accommodate a mattress for tanning.
A Very Modular Cockpit
Accessed by a sliding door and two steps, the cabin can sleep four people. The main bed is at the bow, while a mid-cabin with another bed (Queen size) will delight children or guests. In the center, a sofa and a kitchen share the space while a large bathroom is located on the port side. The entire cabin benefits from good headroom (78’’) but there is no separation between the different spaces except for a curtain to “close” the bow sleeping area. The overall atmosphere is quite cozy with sober colors and quality fabrics. The equipment is complete and the list of options allows you to truly customize your boat.
To propel this boat, Sea Ray offers in standard version 2 x 350 hp Mercruiser, rather well adapted mechanics that allows a cruiser speed around 23 mph and a maximum speed of 41 mph. A good result that corresponds to the family program of the boat. Moreover, the boat is pleasant to drive, very stable with a moderate list in curves. Its hull allows for smooth navigation in the waves and accelerations are quite fast. If you want a little more power, you can always opt for 2 x 380 hp but the difference should not be blatant. You can also choose a diesel engine and in the end, eight different powertrains are available.
Editor’s Note
If you’re looking for a sporty-looking cabin boat with good modularity, sleeping room for four people and complete equipment, the Sundancer 350 Coupe should seduce you. Versatile and elegant, it is also quite affordable and it’s a Sea Ray!
